Why I Choose to Mask Up After COVID Reopening

A conservative stance during a situation no one understands

Well, it’s back to “normal” according to many people who have grown tired of staying at home and modifying their typical behaviors. As I have ventured outside for necessities related to food and ongoing homestead projects, I have noticed that people have relaxed into pre-COVID behaviors. It’s as if nothing happened. Except for the thousands of people who have died and the many more thousands who have fallen ill and survived.

As I am typing this I sit in a waiting area while my car is being serviced. The check engine light came on the other day and his stubbornly persisted. None of the staff is wearing a mask. The one lady sitting in the waiting room with me doesn’t have on a mask. I am sitting a safe distance away contentedly breathing through my mask.

As I watch the numbers tick up in some states and decline in other states, I can see why people are confused. Explaining the statistics of exposure and spread for viruses is a complicated affair. And what I have learned about human behavior is that people will revert to their comfort zone any time they are faced with ambiguity. Tony Robbins is master at explaining this:
