Increase Your Productivity: Every Friday I am Going on Vacation
How pretending to go on vacation can make you more productive
The 2-minute rule that I have already talked about is a great way to sneak in getting more done. Whenever I feel bored or don’t know what to do next, this rule keeps me moving forward. What can I get done in the next 2 minutes? Then, I go do it.
Another rule that I have found myself using, again and again, has to do with vacations. One day, I noticed how I was really productive at closing the loop and finishing items just before I went on vacation. If you are a professional who works in a corporate environment or an entrepreneur who leads your company, you know the routine. It goes something like this:
I will be out of the office next week. What do I need to clean out my queue so that my time away won’t impact anybody?
If you are a considerate professional, you have probably asked yourself a version of this question.
So, I started observing and thinking. I observed that I typically finished a lot of items just before I went on vacation. I started thinking, “What if I did this more often?” I concluded that I would probably get more done.
This is when it dawned on me that incorporating this as a practice could actually help me get more done.
