Too many of us are busy living in yesterday. Yesterday’s mistakes. Yesterday’s words. Yesterday’s failures. Yesterday’s successes. It’s all about yesterday.
Living in yesterday robs us of today. When we look through the lens of yesterday, our thoughts about today become twisted. The reality of now becomes inconsequential. We lose our focus, our hope, and our motivation when we think about yesterday.
Have you noticed that yesterday is sorted and classified by your brain? It is either good or bad. It is either something we wish to relive or something we never want to do again. Our brains detest ambiguity. So we go through our memory of yesterdays sorting and classifying without ever looking up and seeing our today.
The joy of this moment escapes us as we peer into yesterday. We cry over what was and laugh at what has been. In this way, our yesterdays become the emotional drivers of our today. Those feelings about yesterday sit in the seat scorning us into submission. “Forget about today. Remember yesterday.”
