Bravo! You articulated well-thought out approaches here. This is helpful. Unfortunately, many leaders don't think about being STRATEGIC in their approach to manage high performers. They will give them autonomy without taking the time to align on expectations. High achievers will ALWAYS hit the goal. But if the goal is unclear, they can become frustrated and make up their own goal. And that goal may not be aligned to what was expected. I have seen many high performers get low performance ratings for this. And leaders often fail to see the problem is not the high performer. It is their inability to clearly communicate expectations and what they want.
